While many associate Cannes with the iconic film festival that graces the south of France each summer, the advertising industry has a different perspective. Just days after the film festival wraps, advertising professionals across all sectors of the industry take to the streets of La Croisette and The Palais des Festivals to celebrate the best work in advertising through the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
Veteran DLE member Jesse Noll, who is the Associate Director of Content & Experiences at Wavemaker, had the opportunity to join leadership at this year’s festival as one of the winners of an internal contest and had the chance to attend panels, celebrate the work and build connections on the ground with work colleagues and with brands and vendors.
“Getting to experience Cannes in the flesh was an unforgettable experience,” reflects Jesse. “The unfiltered creativity that just exudes from the festival is contagious and getting to spend loads of time with other professionals has been great. I’m looking forward to bringing a refreshed creative spirit to the work I do in branded content and to evolving the way I continue to instill wisdom across my team.”
In addition to attending the festival, Jesse also spoke at two events during the week. First, Jesse participated in a joint Wavemaker and Yahoo session about music in advertising by emceeing a musical quiz that tested panel attendees’ knowledge of music and brand partnerships. Then, Jesse spoke on the GroupM Rooftop at the Hotel Martinez in a co-moderated Coffee and Curated Creativity session that highlighted the best in media creativity and other case films that were shortlisted or awarded at the festival.
Looking to the future with enthusiasm, Jesse notes, “Next year I hope to return to the festival, not just as a participant and on-the-ground correspondent, but as a shortlisted or even award-winning campaign creator.”
