OPPORTUNITIES TO GIVE BACK IN DLE FALL VOLUNTEER PROJECTS

      September 22, 2021

The DLE’s commitment to volunteer service continues this fall with two projects for giving back so communities can move forward.

Grab your garden gloves as the DLE reunites with Pittsfield Beautiful and Pittsfield Commissioner of Public Services Ricardo Morales for a third round of floral planting on Saturday, Oct. 2, starting at 8:30 AM. A hefty load of hearty mums await for DLE volunteers to plant in garden beds in the North Street business district, just a few blocks from the DLE headquarters.

Participants should meet in front of the Ralph Froio Senior Center at 333 North Street.  Bring garden gloves. Shovels and planting tools will be provided by the City of Pittsfield. However, if you’d like to bring your own planting tools, please do. The planting project should last about 90 minutes. Register here to join the DLE crew.

A second DLE volunteer project is in the works for November with the help of Brenda Petell, Director of Volunteer Engagement at the Berkshire United Way. Brenda is coordinating a special project that involves packing care bags for children in foster care.

“Volunteers will pick out items such as socks, books, toys and pajamas. It is our hope that, as you pack a bag and think about those tiny socks, it has a lasting impact that a child with those tiny feet may have been removed from their house in the night with no belongings,” explains Brenda.

An event date and more details on the November project will appear in next month’s HUB.
