WELCOME, MARKETING INTERN KAVIYAN DEENA
I am Kaviyan, a senior at the Whitman School of Management, majoring in Marketing and Supply Chain Management, and am joining the DLE as a marketing intern.
My dual major may seem a peculiar combination, but it’s at the core of my business values and academic intentions. I believe successful marketers need to understand the holistic value and creation process of the service or product they communicate to customers.
On the other hand, successful supply chain managers need to recognize what the market demands and constantly look for ways to improve their output to match those demands. My curiosity for the intricate interaction of these concepts has led me to pursue this dual major. Nevertheless, I believe I am a marketer at heart.
I was born and brought up in the South of India. My father was a textile manufacturer for various European clothing brands, and I developed an early admiration for production and sales. That said, I had an extremely diverse and internationally minded education as I attended an American international school in my hometown.
I had numerous friends and faculty from around the world, which helped me develop a profound understanding and appreciation of various world cultures and traditions. I have also been fortunate enough to travel to more than 11 countries across five different continents!
At Syracuse I’ve had the privilege of serving as the President of the Marketing Club, being part of the Badminton Club, a peer mentor for the business-oriented learning community and an Excel tutor. These experiences have shown me the value of a constant pursuit of education, networking and comradery.
Through my work with the DLE, I would like to further develop and apply my communications and design skills. My intention is to go beyond simply completing tasks and actively enhance the DLE’s social media presence and bring new strategic marketing initiatives to the table.
The DLE is a wonderful platform for me to expand my network, to engage in conversations with and learn from career professionals. I am thrilled to begin my journey in my new role!
WELCOME, SOCIAL MEDIA INTERN CONNOR JOYCE
Arriving at Syracuse, I originally wanted to major in both Accounting and Finance. I have always had a strong interest in math and I took up an early interest in how the financial world worked. However, after my first two years at Syracuse’s Whitman School of Business, I realized that, although I was interested in finance, marketing intrigued me far more than accounting ever had. It was after this realization that I knew I was much more passionate about marketing and that it was the career path I wanted to pursue.
I enjoy the creative freedom of being allowed to approach and design projects in a unique way each time. In marketing, there is much more room to be creative and imaginative.
Ever since I was a kid, I have always wanted to create or design, whether that was clothes, music or even architecture. I’ve always had a passion for analyzing how something is designed or created and feeling that out to see what I like, what I don’t like and what I would keep or change.
About my background—I am originally from Thornwood, a small town just north of New York City. I love to play sports, with soccer, basketball and football being my favorites. I really enjoy listening to music; Jay-Z and Kanye West are among my favorite artists. I also enjoy watching and analyzing movies. I am very interested in learning about and discovering new clothing brands. And I like to draw.
On campus, I am involved in various clubs. I am the Vice President of the Red Cross Club, the Fiscal Advisor for the Psychology Club and a member of the Entrepreneurship Club. Through my role as Vice President, I have had the opportunity to help plan, coordinate and run various blood drive events across campus. As the Fiscal Advisor for the Psychology Club, I am responsible for helping to plan and budget our club events. I believe that both of these experiences have provided me with great leadership and management skills that I will be able to use in my role at the DLE.
I am very excited to be a part of the DLE internship team for this fall and to take on all of the new responsibilities that come along with it. I believe that this will not only be a great opportunity to showcase my skills and what I’ve learned from previous experience, but also to be able to learn new information, meet new people and prepare myself overall for a professional career in marketing.
